Question of the Elder gods

Something that's strange that appears in the Lovecraft universe are the presence of Elder gods. While later authors would write them as "The good guys" fighting eldritch horrors, Lovecraft himself doesn't denote these gods in such a way. On the contrary, the thinking and actions of Outer gods and Great Old Ones are so far beyond our concept that we can't understand them. Nodens, Hypnos, Bast, gods of different pantheons that have little to do with cosmic horrors. Lovecraft did take a lot of inspiration from other religions but we don't know why. Perhaps it is part of a life unfinished. For my part, I like to think that these gods were a way if reining back his own pantheon for his reader's sake. It is possible he thought that making the gods more relatable might strengthen his own writing. The gods you know are easier than the new ones. And the interaction his human characters have with these gods is still devastating. Characters don't go mad but are f...

A Life Unfinished

One of Lovecraft's greatest fears was not understanding the whole. In other words he sought out understanding but was never able to complete the puzzle. Astronomy, marine biology, physics, round all the pieces up but they just don't fit. As if our minds are incapable of putting it together. Maybe we gain glimpses of the whole meaning but they are too terrifying for us to comprehend. And I think that left him with a life unfinished.

Game issues

Honestly, im afraid to play some games because theres a lot to learn before you can enjoy the game. Like persona 5. I desperately want to play that game but theres the prolog, the story you have to follow, the rules you have to learn and THEN ypu can play the game. I dont want to waste an hour on the learning section when i can load up a boomer shooter and have a blast. So persona 5 just sits there gathering dust on my steam page. Then I get mad and I say "I just want to hit something!" And I go and boot up a game I've played before or something so simple that I don't care. Not to knock on some of the simpler games I've played. I've enjoyed these point and click puzzle games I've played but they take away from my fully satisfying game time.

Digging Deeper

It's been a while because I've been digging deeper into my character and his origin. There are layers to Robert Chambers work that I did not see. Instead of looking at the whole, I should have been looking at the pieces.  I've looked into Chamber's king in yellow and have been trying to correlate it to Lovecraft's work. At last I have the deeper meaning behind the work. The King seems to be a metaphor for the greek god dionysus. The god of plays and madness. The god of wine and pleasure. All the pieces of Chamber's work make sense bit there is an even deeper connection. Dionysus also represents the right side of the brain. This has turned my story up on its head. Now I can go deeper into the psychology behind my characters. I look forward to this week as I dive into the unconscious.
