Oblivion early review

I suppose I should tell this tale. When I was in college I saw a review for Fallout 3. It enthralled me. The idea of exploring a nuclear wasteland appealed to me. I wanted to buy 1 and 2 and play those first but dumped the idea when I found out they were only on pc. So 3 it was. I was on campus at the time at Wright University so my PS3 sat collecting dust at home. I only got to play it for a weekend before I had to travel back to school. While on campus I studied the lore on the wiki which made me want to play even more. Finally summer break came and I spent two weeks exploring every cranny of Fallout. I had to stop several times because of the depressing aura of it all. The game tried to pass off the world with some dark humor but it still wore on me.

After I got over that depression, I found my true love in exploring. Every piece told a story. You might find a gun under someone's bed or discover drugs hidden in a tin can. The game rewarded the same curiosity I had when I was in high school picking up unk and pens off the floor. I finished the game and slogged through (some) the dlc to finish a truly wonderful game. I still visit Fallout 3 every few years or so.

But I wanted more.

I asked a worker at Gamestop if he knew of any such game and he told me about the Bethesda's previous game: Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion. My heart raced, there was more to play. Next summer I got Oblivion and was shocked. This wasn't Fallout. My curiosity was still rewarded but more with puzzles and loot rather than story telling elements. Thr true problem came when I transformed into a vampire. No one in the game or in the manual told me fighting vampires would transform me into one. At first I was fine but the people began to question my facial features and then ran from me. The sun burned and drained my health. I was cursed to become a vampire. I bolted to the local churches to pray to some god in hopes of blessing my curse away. But I was too far gone. I had to look up online what to do and luckily there was a quest for a cure. I had to look up where to find garlic in people's houses and I had to sneak in at night to grab it because no one would sell to me. There was a flower thst only bloomed in the south east region of the map, unfortunately, I had only explored the western. I had to hide in caves during the day and run around looking at night. At last I found all the ingredients only to find that the quest was bugged on the PS3. This was before major patches were common. I called Bethesda help line begging for an answer. There was nothing they could do but it was possible to play the game as a vampire. I didn't want that. Disheartened, I quit playing and never finished.

Now the remaster has come out and hopefully the turn out will be different. I still check my character's stats like a madman to see if I'm infected by anything, just in case. But maybe now I can finish the game.
