Gods: Yog-Sothoth
The Lurker at the Threahold. The Key and the Gate. The Beyond One. Opener of the Way. The All-in-One. The One-in-All. All-Encompassing. Yogge-Sothothe. Yok-Zothoth. Yog-Sototl. Iog-Sotot.
Many are the names for this unspeakable god. Even in his banishment he is omniscient and omnipresent. Born of the Nameless Mist, he knows all that is and is to come. A mass of orbs bound by tentacles, each orb seems to offer glimpses into other times or dimensions. Flickers of fate dance in his spheres. Each of the thirteen known spheres bears a name.

Even Nyarlathotep gives Yog-Sothoth his respect. Perhaps THE most powerful of the dieties, only answerable to Azathoth. Some speculate they may be opposites. Yin and Yang. One the void, the other fulfilment. But don't think this makes him benevolent. Ask the Whateleys of what happens when you seek his knowledge or power. So all-encompasing is this god, that Lovecraft designated the religion around his dieties as "Yog-Sothotism."
In Lovecraft's "Hypnos," a sculpter befriends an entity that may be the god Hypnos. As the two delve into the dream world, the sculpter finds a barrier that he cannot pass. As the sculpter awaits his friend in the waking world, Hypnosis returns and says that they should avoid sleep. What did he see in the dream world that was so horrifying that a god would avoid sleep? Did he see the infinity that is Yog-Sothoth? Another tale, "Through the Gates of the Silver Key," Yog-Sothoth addresses the protagonist Randolph Carter. An act that should have destroyed Carter's mind. It is implied that he drove the Elder Things out of Antartica. He may have revealed the formula of traveling through space-time to Walter Gilman. And his is worshipped by the vile Mi-go who seems to share his apprehension for morality.
In the few cases he does appear, Yog-Sothoth uses his robbed avatar Tawil at U'mr. There he serves as the protector of the Ultimate Gate. He is worshipped as the God of Time as Aforgomon.
What is behind the gate? What does the key represent? I feel like there are some deep psychological and philosophical aspects to this entity. It almost reminds me of Buddhism in it's name "All-in-One." I feel like there is a deeper aspect to this creature.
