Thoughts on Kirk

From the little I've seen of Charlie Kirk's work hasn't made a big impression on me. I see him like I see most right wingers and that's usually people who have strong opinons. But unlike most of the hosts online and on the radio, he didn't yell or complain. I swear, there is a skill where people learn how to talk about nothing for hours just to make one point. I've listened to 98.9 FM before and nothing there appealed to me. If anything, it made me angry. Who could believe such idiotic statements and pat themselves on the back for expousing something that you don't really believe in. I doubt these men and women truly believe in this right winger stuff but they do it because it gets them attention and money. That said, Charlie Kirk was a little bit different when he went on stage and asked people to debate him. He still stood firm with his beliefs but didn't blab for hours about nonsense. Instead, he invited people to ask him questions and tried to have a dicussion. Of course, that often meant putting on people who were already ready to pop on the stage and give them a little push. It certainly makes the Left look bad when you put the worst representatives of the Left in front of a camera. It feels more like a game than an actual attempt to start a conversation. You get a lot more clicks when you stir up people rather than calm them down. I'm not going to pretend Kirk was innocent in this. He boldly sought out the radical Left and that's not the problem. The problem is that despite what he said or did, he didn't deserve to be shot in the neck. And it seems like he's become a martyr faster than any Right winger has. Kirk is now a rallying cry for the Right to defend free speech and put down Kirk's nay sayers. And there have been a lot fo them. More of them than I thought. I knew Kirk wasn't liked but the number of lost jobs in his wake is staggering. So many people are losing their jobs over things they tweeted online. Worse, is that many are not backing down. I'll be honest, as a person with autism, I struggle to say the right things. I always feel one step away from a landmine in a politcal climate that loves to pounce on the slightest mistake. So I've been keeping quiet on the Kirk thing, not that I use social media that much. And it makes me feel a little better knowing I'm not the only person who struggles with saying the right thing. But at what point does a person look at the social climate and think it's okay to say something about Kirk's death? Teachers, civil workers, business men, game designers and more have lost their jobs for celebrating Kirk's death. It's gotten so bad that even if you disagreed with Kirk you risk losing your job if you post anything online. What is it the Bible says about controling your tongue? I just found a dozen or so verses giving warnings on using your tongue. It seems like every day another company is offering an apology. I'm usually all for it. I love it when people get their come upance. But now the cup overflows. I see people online crying over mistakes they made. I see companies like TMZ (who likely deserve to be cancelled after all the crap they've pulled) pleading with people online. Everyone is trying to save their reputation and dont' realize that free speech doesn't protect you from harm. It's strange because I want to blame the Left for creating this cancel culture but the Right is throwing it right back at them. At this point I think it would be wise to stay quiet until things calm down. And they will, it's just a matter of time.
