Answering the quetions for Cain Story Part 1
These are some of the questions my writing friend proposed to me
1. What was Abe like before the world fell apart—what qualities did he have that still peek through?
I need a problem. The Mark of Cain should come as a solution to something that was happening in the world. Maybe a plague...maybe no. Maybe the mark could come out of no where and people wonder why it is happening. The grudged dead come back to life without an explanation. They call it a cruel miracle. Thats the best way to describe what happend to them. Maybe I don't need a problem but I want the event to happen just as something else was about to happen. Like a wave of water that puts out a firery tower. Before Abe tracked down people, he was a lowly private eye. He didn't make a lot of money but it was good work and it paid the bills. Most people used basic technology to find someone or track someone. When the mark came, it became important that trackers were used to find people with a grudge over the dead so that the dead couldn't be brought back to life. Abe was perfect for this role and saw his life savings skyrocket. He took any job because it made his life better, including the job that got his wife and child killed.
So my story is about the relationship between Abe and the guy who killed his wife and child. How did they get to this point? Did Abe track him down for a job or did the guy feel threatened by Abe and killed them to send a message? I feel like that's a weak notion, too much like Deadpool 2. I think it would be better if the guy killed Abe's family by accident. But that kills the reason why he killed Lilly doesn't it? Or maybe it complicates things. I think this guy, whom I'm going to call Issac, killed Lilly by accident and was then killed by Lilly's husband which brought back Lilly. But Issac's girlfriend shot and killed Lilly's husband and the two ran off leaving Lilly alone.
I'm getting off track. I need to think some more. I need to think creatively like it says in the Artist's Way. I think I'll come back to this later.
2.What core belief drives him? (e.g., “Justice must be balanced,” “I must fix what I caused,” etc.)
I think Abe is driven by the need to see his wife and child again. I could go with I must fix what I caused because he was part of the problem. He hunted down people so that the dead wouldn't come back to life but his job was just to track them, not kill them so he felt he wasn't to blame for what happened. Just doing my job. Maybe Issac came for revenge?
I have two crossroads. Maybe if Abe tracked and killed them. That would been a huge step for him but the pay was so good that he couldn't resist. But while Abe was hunting down the Issac's girlfriend, he didn't realize that...Doh! This is hard. Let me try something else.
