Today I'll go shopping with my folks. Due to the goverment shutdown, thanks Republicans, I don't have food stamps. My folks have offered to foot the bill which is nice but charity always feels like shame to me. Dad assures me that he understands my situation, that we're trying to get me on disability. It's just so hard sometimes to not be able to make enough money or be able to work hard enough to make a living.
Shopping was a funny affair. When my dad and I compared carts I had duplicates of his items. He added stuff for me to his cart thinking he'd help me out. He's so sweet. I couldn't ask for a better pair of parents.
There's one more thing I should mention before I log off for the day. Today is a bad day to write. I don't know what it is but my motivation is gone. It just wasn't a good day and there was plenty to do. I had to go shopping, do chores, lots of things that needed to be done, got done. That's a good thing. I don't think I can write on my days off. There's just something in me that refuses to work no matter how hard I push. God help me.
There's this game I played years ago called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The other games took place in World War 2. This was the first game that occured in a fictional war with modern hardware. There's a scene in the campaign where you escape a city on a helecopter. While escaping you hear on the radio that the Marines may have found a possible nuclear device. That sends a chill down your spine. At the same time, the copter next to you gets shot down. Being the marine you are you can't leave a man behind. So you land and your team covers you as you go after the lone pilot. You're successful, but as you go back into the sky you hear the radio confirm that it is nuclear device. He's cut off as the a sudden explosion rocks the city. Your ride crashes and the game cuts to a list of the dead as an aerial camera shows the nuke going off. Names are listed which can only mean that they are dead. Suddenly the game cuts back to your player down on the ground. You've survived the crash and crawl out only to see oblivion as the mushroom cloud slowly chokes you to death. What a scene. It's something that will remain in my mind forever.
What happened next to the developers and their publishers was a real war that would lead to the future of the series.
