I'll be meeting with my second therapist in half an hour. This is the second time I'll be meeting with her because she cancelled the second session without telling me or the company she works for. I can't think of much to say. I'm burning out on dopamine. I've got too many games and not enough time. I need to burn it off, do something that I hate so that I can enjoy writing and playing games again. How does King or other writers do this every day? How do I manage to do this without complaining every day? I've seen my past posts and I'm a whiner. I can't help it. I think I've always voiced my concerns. There's a lot for me to do and not enough time to do it. Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. That's never a good start. I'm not looking forward to meeting this therapist. She's like rock I'm trying to crack. Just seems so cold and clinical. No warmth or humanity like my other therapist. I barely know her and it's hard to open up when you're talking to a rock. That reminds me, I'll be meeting both therapists and my psychiatrist this week. I'm not that stressed out about it. I found this book with this quote about stress. Something along the lines of a person without stress doesn't grow. I don't know about that. I find the same issue with those that say "That which doesn't kill me only makes me stronger." I've never seen life like that. It only prolongs the inevitable. That's what it feels like. It's hard to be upbeat in the cold. My feet and fingers feel like they are falling off. They are icicles and my room, despite being near seventy degrees, feels like an icebox. How does this happen?
Well, that's a bit of a relief. My next appointment with my new therapist isn't until next week. Don't know how that happened and I really don't care. It gives me more time to work on my projects.
I think I'll do some more Koudelka to get some pages in.
Gargoyles have interested me for years. During my research on lore, I found out that gargoyles fall into Christian mythology. They were carved to scare away demons from churches. That fact always interested me, that people would create a monster more fearsome than a demon to scare them off. The game wiki lists this as an optional boss. The bestarity says that it's "a beast of unfathomable evil." I think people get that wrong about gargoyles. They are protectors, just like how the celebrity's body guard isn't pretty. It seems that the game is using the standard definition of a ghoul rather than Lovecraft's version. People interchange ghoul with zombie or other flesh-eaters. In Lovecraft's world, that ghouls are a race of dog-like, humanoid cannibals who replace human children in the cribs with their own spawn. A nightmare for any parent. It's rare for Lovecraft to tap into parental fears.
The Giant
Bestiarity reads "Creature formed in the womb of the earth and brought to life by Gaia's terrible fury." This one seems to be more out of touch. It reminds me more of a golem than a giant. It also reminds me of the Cardiff Giant, a hoax where someone buried a carved statue and had a team dig it up to make fun of people who believed there were giants in the Bible. A ridiculous argument.
The Giant Plant is said to be an offshoot from the life tree Yggdrasil. I know that the director behind this series worked on the Final Fantasy series. In those games the enemies kind of melded together even if they were from different lore. Here, it feels like a mismash of monsters. Maybe if I played the game it would fit in my head better. I think the issue is that Koudelka is based in reality more than the Final Fantasy series. I think that I expect the monster to be taken more seriously since the story is so serious. The bestarity entries feel dispassionate and has a "whatever" feel to them.
Giant Roach
It reminds me of the Radroaches from the Fallout games. The game says they became warped by the energies of the monastery.
Gug. Boss Monster
Now this is a Lovecraft monster! It's a mouth on top of a torso. I like the strange forked feet at the bottom and the extra arms. Usual multi-armed monsters have an extra set beneath the first pair. This is a nice change.
The Hand of Glory is the first monster that seems original. I'm guessing it comes out of the floor or wall. Koudelka has a fixed camera angle during exploration which is reminiscent of the old Resident Evil series. It also reminds me of the Wall Masters from the Zelda games. The bestarity says that the hands are from murderers that still seeks to kill. A neat idea.
Headless corpse is a former prisoner of the Nemeton Monastery which is where the majority of the game takes place. Nemeton served as an army barracks and a prison where many were tortured and killed. It seems the place is soaked in blood.
The Inverse
The game calls him an "inverse" but the picture calls him a "hangman," and the bestarity says he was a former thief shot and poisoned. I don't know what happened to him based on the labels.
Jailer. Another boss monster. If the bestarity were better it would have said that he was responsible for the many corpses that haunt this monastery. There's always room for more lore. The wikie also lists him as the "Nobleman's Spirit." He's said to have enjoyed torturing and executing the prisoners.
The Jester. Every horror game needs a jester I suppose. There's no note on him besides that he stalks the halls laughing and delights in causing misery to others.
Mad Fly
I always think of the movie "The Fly" whenever I hear about a fly mosnter. This is another boss monster and one that has random attacks. The bestarity says that it waits for prey to lay it's eggs in. It's only motivation is to breed. Disgusting but this one feels more on point than other entries.
Mars
This is one of the mosnters that made me want to create this list. He's one of the favorite monsters listed in a better wiki writer. BOO-GLEECH
This guy is a homunculus with the aggressiveness of the god of war.
I guess every game that has a maze needs to call on the Minotauros. Born from the rituals of the Druids, it was made by the deaths of animals offered to the Cauldron of Life. Looks like a boss but the wiki doesn't list it as such.
Mummy Bride
The picture download lists her as "Mira." I don't know if that's her true name or not. The bestarity has a great entry that says that she was put in prison by her lover and the guards forced her to dress in a wedding dress. It also says that fire attacks work great on her which is obvious. This is another great original addition. Maybe I just appreciate original monster rather than easy ones like the Minotauros.
