Artist's Way events part 3
5. Youtube Playlists. I have a pair of playlists that I like to update on Youtube. The first one I created years ago called "Mental Masochism 2.0." It's a joke on myself because I like watching stuff that causes me to cringe. There's a wealth of bad cartoons and things that make me wince, and for some reason, I enjoy it. There's cartoon openings, Fortnite trailers, bad movie clips like the Resident Evil movies (which I love for some reason) crappy AI videos, terrible video game trailers that are blatant lies, corny "as seen on TV" ads for cheap products, really bad earworm songs, ads to games I'll never play, TV show clips of things I rarely or never watched, more ads, and plenty of throwback nostalgia parts. Over three thousand videos of crap that somehow gives me enjoyment when I watch them. I use these videos as pre-sleeping watching material. Nothing turns off my brain like watching something stupid. On the other side, we have the "Good Stuff in this World" playlist. It's filled with the opposite of Mental Masochism. There are things I find facinating like Lego builds, cartoons I enjoy, voice actor cameos, pet videos, Homestar Runner shorts, my favorite songs, secrets and easter eggs in video games, old commercials I saw as a kid, and animation collections. As you can see, these playlists reflect each other. It just depends on whether they annoy me or not. There's also the "KIY" playlist which serves as A LOT of inspiration for my story. Then there's "RTF jobs and mechanics" which was created when I thought I was going to be a game designer. It was filled with things I thought would make good game mechanics like tire repair or toy collecting. Nowadays, it's filled with videos I think are cool. Maybe it will become a game someday but I need to make my stories first. There's also the "Music I guess" playlist filled with my favorite songs but for some reason that playlist gets burried in the others. But these playlists paint a picture of what I want and who I am. I hope to make something out of these playlists, it's a dream of mine.
6. Anime and Manga and Light Novels. I have over six thousand tabs of manga opened on my phone. It's distressing because I'm afraid that I'll lose the saved ones in the vast collection on my phone. But I'll sit down during a break at work and read something that's comforting. There's a type of manga I adore called "slice of life" which is probably my favorite. It follows parts of daily life and serves as a relaxing series. Most of these series star girls because young girls have a comforting effect on the mind, at least that seems to be what the Japanese think. It sounds creepy to be honest. But I can't deny that cute girls do have an effect on my mind. I'd rather read about girls than boys if that makes sense. Anime serves a similar purpose but you could call manga the blueprint for what the anime is supposed to be. What are those called again when you break down the scenes in a cartoon and put them on a board? I forget. Right now, I'm watching "I've been killing slimes for 300 years" which is about a woman who teleports to another world after dying from over work. It seems that the Japanese make such manga, anime, and light novels to provide an escape from over work. The series follows this young woman as she lives her daily life with dragons, slimes, ghosts, and other species in a fantasy world. I enjoy a good story that has high stakes and leads a plot, but it's comforting to watch or read something that is slice of life. There's no tension, the main character is over powered, and everything resolves without nasty conflict. I don't know what else to say but I enjoy manga and anime and light novels.
