Three Pages attempt 5 again
So it looks like the site didn't save my work I did yesterday, I'm still counting it but I need to focus on the Gleipnir story I was working on. There's several things to talk about.
First, I'm getting an aching tooth pulled today which means I'll have more for my tooth story. So there's something good out of all of this. If I can recall what happens to me today, I can add it to my narrative. Whenever I go to the dentist I always wonder what people in the medieval ages did when they had tooth problems. They didn't have tooth brushes back then and I wonder how they got teeth out. I know that the local blacksmith was of help. But he only had hammers and pliers so I have to think the job was quite painful.
Second, I recalled a strange dream I had yesterday. It was like I was in an underground city preparing for siege. The town was about to be attacked by something, probably monsters, and we lived underground with bright lights above us. Like we were in a building. The fun part was that I was Mario from Mario Sunshine. I could use a water jetpack to hover around. So I think that's what was so fun about it was the platform abilities I had. I just remember that my friend Mike had a blank basement, a basement with nothing in it. The only other thing I remember is that I had to collect blue coins for some reason. There was this tension in the town as the people were gathering anything sharp to make into a weapon or a barrier. There was this tunnel that was illuminated with bluish light that we had to go down on. There was also this huge pit with a dirt path that went down to it. I don't remember what it went to.
On to the Gleipnir Chapter 3: It Must Mean Something
While still holding onto Shuichi's groin, Claire explains that her sister disappeared after killing their parents. The title page shows this image of a little girl, Claire, overshadowed by a ghostly monster. The monster gives Claire a coin. Cut back to Shuichi who looks surprised but he's not focused on Claire, he's focused on the girl on the balcony. She's got a hood and facemask on. "Do you know her?" "No." Claire orders Shuichi to fight the girl. The girl grabs Shuichi and knees him in the gut. The girl demands Claire hand over the coin. Instead of handing it over, Claire pumps the girl for information. She asks what the coin is. The girl says that "It's something that grants power at the cost of everything else." I can see that the tension is rising. We, as the reader, don't know what this coin is. But this kind of gives us more of a hint of what is going on. The girl brandishes a knife. Claire smiles as Shuichi transforms and grabs the girl. "Don't kill her Shuichi. I've still got some questions for her." "Why would I do that!!? I'm not going to kill anyone..." Claire takes off the girl's mask and starts to interogate her. "C'mon, I don't have all day." Realizing that they are "collectors" the girl says she doesnt' need to hold back anymore and transforms. She grows claws on her hands and feet and knocks Shuichi away. As she kicks Shuichi, she declares that she'll have to kill both now that they've seen her face. Claire goes for her purse and sprays the girl with pepper spray. While the girl is writhing in pain Claire orders Shuichi to kill the girl. I like this dynamic between the two. Shuichi is unable to do things like hurt people while Claire has no scruples about it. We cut to a scene of Shuichi carrying Claire as they jump out of the window. "Hey, why are you running away? Fight her..." Back in the apartment, the girl has washed her face. She's enraged. In a park Claire asks Shuichi why he ran. He asks her how she knows that the girl's their enemy. "How...? Are you retarded? She climbed ont othe balcony, broke into my apartment, tried to rob me and truned into a monster. No shit she's our enemy." Shuichi looks a little embarrassed. Claire asks if Shuichi is trying to avoid fighting. "Of course I am...I've been trying to live a normal life until now!! I don't want to fight anyone!!" And then you just tell me to fight that monster...I don't knwo what tgo do!! How am I supposed to fight!!?" Claire looks at him with pity but tells him that girl is coming to kill them. "What would you do if someone found out you were a monster?" This is something else I need. The hesitation to act and the confusion of what my character has become. I like this theme of not wanting to fight despite being a monster. Claire tells Shuichi that they will die if they don't fight. She notices that he has a zipper on his back in his transformed form. Claire says that if the coin means something important, then maybe his new form does too. "So what's inside might be...your true power." Shuichi suddenly has hope, maybe the thing inside of him can do something. Claire unzips him and finds out there's nothing inside. Shuichi asks what she sees, Claire tells him that he's empty. So we add to the despair, what we thought was something important seems to be useless. Shuichi is in despair but Claire's eyes widden. "Oh...I get it." Cut to the girl chasing the two down. She sees Shuichi standing alone and screetches to a halt. She demands to know where Claire went. Shuichi responds by giving the girl the finger. Enraged, the girl attacks.
So this chapter ratched up the tension really quickly. This is only the second chapter and there's action already. I need my character to have to use his powers even if he doesn't understand them. Or at least I need something to pull up the tension.
