Ok, lets finish up from yesterday.
My dad showed me something interesting yesterday. There's a printout of Jesus smiling and holding out his hand towards the viewer. Dad said that he had that hung up because of a lesson he learned from a coworker from India. The friend, his name is Vinky, said that he gave a statue to a guy who said he always had bad luck. He was to smile at the statue as he left for the day and that would give him a blessing. This is based off of the religion in the region that Vinky is from. So my dad did the same but with a Christain twist. He looks at the picture and says something like "You still love me despite who I am?" I know my dad makes mistakes and he's a glass half empty type of guy but it seems odd to me that such a great man (at least to me) would need something like that. I guess we all need confidence boosters. I see my folks in such a great light that it's easy to forget that they are human. I guess this is one of those things where I don't always see the difference between fantasy and reality.
I've been thinking about the things I want and it scares me. The things I want seem to conflict with what I am. I wonder if I'm able to become a writer, especially when I may get a full time job soon. One of the things I discovered while I was with my psychiatrist was that the job finding people we hired find full time apprenticeship jobs. Can I really take on a full time job? That doesn't feel like who I am. I haven't had a full time job in years and aren't we trying to get me into disability? I think I'd rather be in disability and have all this free time than work my butt off for a job. I rarely have enough time as it is to write and now they want to take more away from me. I want to be like Stephen King or Harlan Ellison, not this. And who am I to take on a full time job? I've been fired mutliple times and what happens if I hate the job? I don't know if I can do this, give up on my dreams of being a writer. I think I'm just scared of change.
Going back to Junji Ito. The second story I wanted to talk about is "The Enigma of Amigara Fault." This is probably my favorite story because of how weird it is. After part of a mountain falls, holes in the shapes of human bodies appear in the mountain. People are drawn to these holes as if it was made for them. On the other side is an exit where the human body has changed into a grotesque form. Like how playdoh comes out of the press toys in a strange shape. I think it represents how society forces us to change so that we become this strange blob that "fits" into the group. This story and Hanging Balloons are the two stories of Junji Ito that always stood out to me. His others are fine tales but none have the same sharpness to them. Excpet for maybe Uzumaki which is his masterpiece. There's also his stories about Tomie who is a curse upon whomever she speaks to. She's a plague on the world.
One more thing I've noticed. It's about DnD. When people play there are those that take it very seriously and those who joke about it. Most groups do a little of both but there are those that take it very seriously like the writer of Goblin Slayer. The taglin is "he does not let the gods roll the dice." The "god" being us the players. It's as if he's in defiance of the very game that he lives in. Instead of saving the world or defeating the demon king, Goblin Slayer lives up to his name. He's perpetually trapped in this cycle of killing all goblins to avenge his sister. It's this lovely mix of Lord of the Rings and DnD
For the rest, I think I'll finish up working on the monsters from Koudelka.
The Nobleman's Spirit
The file lists this character as "Jailer" instead of his title. He's another boss summoned by Charlotte. He tortured the inmates in the Monastery.
Patrick's vine is another monster spawned from the Life Tree. A man embedded into a vine, it makes me wonder what the Life Tree has to do with all of this. Another boss enemy.
Every horror game needs a Possessed Armor. I'm more curious about where the cliche came from.
The Possessed Chair is a nice change. The bestarity says it's floating due to a poltergeist. Is it in the chair or holding the chair?
